Associate Professor – Sport and Recreation Management

Dr. Matthew Ruckman is a Sport and Recreation Management faculty member at the New England College. He possesses a Doctorate in Education: Physical Education and Health from the University of West Florida and a Master’s in Recreation and Sport Science from Ohio University.
During his tenure in higher education, Dr. Ruckman has specialized in the area of Sport Governance to include NCAA governance, policy development, and policy enforcement. He has participated in NCAA compliance reviews and made recommendations for best practice. In addition, he has spearheaded comprehensive assessments of gender equity in intercollegiate athletics.
Dr. Ruckman is actively involved in a number of research and evaluation projects in the collegiate sport industry. He has authored publications on student-athlete welfare and gender equity in intercollegiate athletics. Dr. Ruckman’s current research focuses on student athlete welfare topics including overall wellness and career preparation.
Finally, Dr. Ruckman also conducts evaluation projects for city parks and recreation systems. He has developed strategic plans for parks and recommended capital improvement projects.
Ed Royer is a Sport and Recreation Management faculty member at New England College. He possesses a Juris Doctorate in Law and a Master’s of Science Degree in Sport Management from the University of Florida.
Ed has specialized in Sport Administration and consulting to include program development, strategic planning, legal analysis and representation, and partnership development.
Ed is actively involved in research and evaluation projects in the sport and education industry.
